
SHAWNEE COUNTY—Law enforcement authorities are investigating a suspect on criminal charges involving explosives.
Just before 9a.m. Friday, police responded to disturbance at a home the 1800 Block of SW Lincoln in Topeka, according to Lt. Jerry Monasmith.
While officers were in the area, they were made aware of possible explosives devices inside the residence. After rendering the area secure, the TPD Bomb Squad responded to the location to identify and safely secure the devices.
Police recovered four homemade explosives devices, according to Monasmith.
The Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF) assisted with the investigation and police arrested Robert Ames, 64 of Topeka, on requested charges of Criminal Use of Explosives. During the investigation, no property damage or injuries were reported.
