Kansas man charged for birthday party killing

SEDGWICK COUNTY —A Kansas man arrested after a fatal weekend shooting at a birthday party has made his first court appearance.

Marcello Ibarra, 42 of Wichita, was charged with 2nd degree murder and aggravated assault, according to the Sedgwick County District Attorney's office.

Just before 9 p.m. August 15, police were dispatched to a shooting call in the 2300 block of South Laura in Wichita, according to Officer Trevor Macy.

Upon arrival, they located a victim – identified as 25-year-old Robertino Gomez of Wichita. He was pronounced deceased on scene.

Through the investigation, officers learned that 42-year-old Marcello Ibarra and Gomez were at a birthday party together, and Ibarra decided to leave. When Gomez went to check on Ibarra outside the party, witnesses reported hearing gunshots. 

Police arrested Ibarra and his next court appearance is Sept. 2.  His bond is $200,000, according to the district attorney's office.
