
KANSAS CITY —One person died in an accident just after 6:30p.m. Thursday in Kansas City.
A Toyota RAV4 was traveling eastbound on Interstate 435 at Cookingham Drive, according to KCPD Sergeant Phil DiMartino.
The Toyota traveled off the roadway to the left through the grassy center median and struck a westbound Peterbilt semi. The impact ruptured the fuel tanks of the truck, causing the truck and trailer to become fully engulfed in flames.
The unrestrained driver and sole occupant of the Toyota was ejected from the vehicle and pronounced deceased at the scene. The driver of the Peterbilt was not injured.
This is fatality #36 compared to #48 at this time last year, according to DiMartino. The accident remains under investigation. Police have not released the name of the driver who died.
