KANSAS CITY—A Kansas City man faces charges in connection  with a fatal shooting that occurred in midtown in August.

Marquez Canton, 23, is charged with 1st Degree Murder, Armed Criminal Action, and Unlawful Possession of a Firearm, according to Jackson County Prosecutor Melesa Johnson.

According to court records, Kansas City police responded to the area of 39th and Main Street on Aug. 7, and located the victim in the doorway of a business suffering from an apparent gunshot wound to the back of his head. He was pronounced deceased at a nearby hospital.

Surveillance footage captured both Canton and the victim inside the business. The victim exits the business, walks across the street and then re-enters the business. The victim interacts with witnesses and then exits the business. Canton pulls a firearm out of his waistband and shoots the victim from behind. Canton then leaves the scene.

A Jackson County judge set the Canton’s bond at $250,000 cash only.
