KANSAS CITY —The Kansas City, Missouri Fire Department responded to building collapse in the 4800 block of Independence Avenue just before 12:30 p.m. Thursday, according to Battalion Chief Michael Hopkins.
On arrival companies reported a partial collapse of a bowstring truss roof. The collapse fell into the interior of the structure causing several walls to lean out and become compromised.

KCFD established a collapse zone and requested dangerous buildings to the scene. The building is an occupied structure that is used for a storage location for a wholesale business, according to Hopkins. The owner of the building and the buildings renter were on scene and working with Dangerous Buildings and City Planning to develop a plan for securing the structure. There were no injuries reported at this incident.
Independence Avenue was closed in both directions from Chelsea to Brighton.
