Police ID skeletal remains found near Kansas creek

LEAVENWORTH COUNTY – The Kansas Bureau of Investigation (KBI) and the Lansing Police Department have identified the human skeletal remains found Feb. 18, in a wooded area in Lansing.

-Just after 5 p.m. on Sunday, Feb. 18, subjects were walking along a creek bed in the 900 block of N. Main Street in Lansing, when they found skeletal remains.

The deceased man has been identified as Derrick U. Collins. He was reported missing from Leavenworth in June of 2022, when he was 59-years-old.

No trauma was noted during the autopsy. At this time there is no evidence of foul play in Collins’ death. Final autopsy results are pending.
