JOHNSON COUNTY— A four-vehicle collision on westbound Interstate 435 near the U.S. 69 interchange resulted in one fatality and multiple injuries. The crash occurred just after 8:30p.m. August 28.
According to Overland Park Police Department spokesman Officer John Lacy, Cynthia Aziere of Lee's Summit, Missouri died in the crash.
According to Lacy, a vehicle driven by Aziere was westbound on Interstate 435. She attempted to exit onto the US-69 interchange. The vehicle crossed the gore area separating the lanes and struck the impact attenuator. This initial impact then caused a multi-vehicle collision on the off-ramp to US 69 Highway.
Eight people across all four vehicles were involved in the collision:
Aziere was pronounced dead at the scene. Five additional occupants were transported to a local hospital for further evaluation, four suffered suspected broken ribs. Three individuals were uninjured, two were evaluated and released at the scene.
The Overland Park Traffic Unit is leading the investigation.
