BARTON COUNTY —Deputies from the Barton County Sheriff's Office and officers from the Great Bend Police Department spent several hours Wednesday evening searching for a vehicle involved in a fatal hit-and-run accident near 2nd Street and Chisholm Trail, just outside the east Great Bend city limits.
Deputies initially responded to the incident at approximately 6:40 p.m. One person was found deceased at the scene, and the driver of the suspect vehicle left the scene before officers arrived.
Authorities checked video cameras from several area businesses and issued a "be on the lookout" for a dark pick-up truck with heavy front-end damage.
Police released no additional details.
