SEDGWICK COUNTY — A Kansas man has been sentenced to prison for attempting to kill his girlfriend.
Antony Peete, 39, was sentenced to 150 months in prison, according to the Sedgwick County District Attorney's office.
In June he pleaded guilty to attempted second-degree murder, aggravated battery and aggravated intimidation of a victim.
In February of 2020, Pete choked his girlfriend in the bathroom of their home in the 1400 block of North Hillside. He wrapped a plastic bag around her head and she passed out, hitting her head on the bathtub. Peete again tried to use the bag to suffocate the woman.
The victim was able to keep her fingers between the bag and her throat and talked Peete out of the attack. She was later hospitalized with a dissected carotid artery.
Peete has prior convictions that include aggravated assault, identity theft and forgery, according to the Kansas Department of Corrections.
