HARPER COUNTY — A man wanted for murder in Louisiana remains jailed in Kansas following his arrest in rural Barber County.

Douglas Thomas, 41, is a suspect in the October 4, shooting death of 26-year-old Demarcus Lewis whose body was found in a rural area near Mansfield Louisiana, according DeSoto Parish Sheriff Jayson Richardson.

On the evening of October 5, authorities spotted Lewis at a convenience store in Medicine Lodge, according to the Barber County Attorney's office. When law enforcement arrived, Lewis had left in a 2006 Lexus RX 330.

Numerous law enforcement agencies began a search for Lewis and the vehicle. After several hours, authorities found the vehicle in the 100 Block of West Petit in Medicine Lodge.

On Tuesday morning, Harper County deputies saw Thomas walking on highway near Attica, Kansas and took him in custody without incident, according to Harper County Undersheriff Kenny Hodson.

Thomas is being held on requested charges of second-degree murder, according to Richardson.  Authorities have not confirmed when he will return to Louisiana to face charges.
