Sheriff: Kan. boy walking to school struck by SUV

SEDGWICK COUNTY—Law enforcement authorities are investigating an accident involving a student walking to school in Mulvane.

Just after 7:30 a.m. Thursday, deputies were dispatched to a vehicle injury accident involving a pedestrian near the intersection of 103rd Street South and Country Walk Lane, according to Lt. Benjamin Blick.

During the collision investigation deputies learned an eastbound Lexus SUV driven by a 45-year-old woman struck a 16-year-old boy walking southbound in a marked crosswalk west of the intersection.

EMS transported the boy to a local hospital with serious injuries, according to Blick. The driver of the Lexus was not injured. Authorities did not release the name of the driver or the victim.

The circumstances of the collision are under investigation.
