Memorial service for 1 of 2 Missouri officers who died in line of duty

JOPLIN, Mo—A funeral service is scheduled for Tuesday afternoon in memory for one of two Missouri police officers who died in the line of duty last week in Joplin, according to a media release from the city.

Cpl. Benjamin Cooper and Officer Jake Reed were two of three officers shot during an investigation on March 8. Another officer, Rick Hirshey, was shot and hurt, but is expected to recover from his injuries.

Following Monday's visitation for Cpl. Cooper, the public funeral service is scheduled to begin at 1p.m. Tuesday at the Leggett and Platt Center located on the Missouri Southern State University Campus.

Public visitation for Officer Reed will be held, Thursday, March 17, from 4-8 p.m. at Leggett and Platt Center with a funeral at 1p.m. Friday at the same location.

 Members of the public who would like to show support to the Cooper Family or to law enforcement, line up along Main Street in Joplin, Missouri from 3rd Street to 19th Street. A procession will travel that route between 3-4 p.m. on Tuesday and again Friday.
