
LARNED, Kansas. – Larned State Correctional Facility (LSCF) resident Jason W. Cott, 45, died Saturday, according to the Kansas Department of Corrections.
Cott was found unresponsive in his cell Saturday night. Staff began life-saving measures immediately and continued after emergency medical services arrived and transported him to a local hospital where he later died. The cause of death is pending the results of an independent autopsy.
Cott was serving two life sentences without the possibility of parole for two convictions of first degree murder in Johnson County, Kansas.
Per protocol, when a resident dies in the custody of the KDOC, the death is under investigation by the KDOC and the Kansas Bureau of Investigation. The investigation is ongoing.
The Larned State Correctional Facility serves only adult males and consists of a 310-capacity medium-security unit and a 304-capacity minimum-security unit.
