Kan. man wanted for girlfriend's murder captured in Texas

SEDGWICK COUNTY —A suspect wanted in connection with the fatal 2018 shooting of a woman in Kansas has been arrested.

On May 9, authorities in El Paso, Texas located and arrested 27-year-old Juan Carlos Caballeros-Yescas in connection with the shooting that fatally injured 41-year-old Lucy Mojica, according to Wichita Police officer Charley Davidson. He has been charged with first-degree murder and aggravated burglary.

On July 7, 2018, officers responded to a shooting call at 531 W. 17th Street North in Wichita/ Upon arrival, officers located Mojica with multiple gunshot wounds.  She was transported to an area hospital where she died.

The investigation revealed that Caballeros-Yescas and Mojica were in a dating relationship and that he arrived at her home, pulled out a handgun, and fired multiple times, striking her.  Caballeros-Yescas then fled the scene.

Through the investigation, investigators developed Caballeros-Yescas as the suspect and had been working to find him.  On Tuesday, he was extradited to Sedgwick County and booked into the jail.

The case has been presented to the Sedgwick County District Attorney’s Office.
