Police catch suspect during burglary of Kan. home improvement store

SHAWNEE COUNTY — Law enforcement authorities are investigating a burglary and attempted burglary and have made an arrest.

Just after 1:30 a.m. Friday, officers were called to Lowes, 1621 SW Arvonia Place in Topeka in reference a subject that had smashed through the south door of the store attempting to gain entry, according to Lt. Manuel Munoz.

The subject left the scene prior to officers’ arrival without gaining entry into the store. A short time later, officers were called to Menards, 6401 SW 17th in Topeka on a similar report that a subject had broken through a door and was currently inside the store.

Officers located the subject identified as 42-year-old Curtis E. Wright inside Menards and took him into custody.

 Wright was booked into the Shawnee County Department of Corrections on requested charges of Attempted Aggravated Burglary (Lowes, Burglary (Menards, Criminal damage to property and a Violation of Stay Home Order, according to Munoz.
