GEARY COUNTY —Authorities recently located a stolen safe in the woods near Grandview Plaza, according to Dickinson County Sheriff Gareth Hoffman.
The safe valued at $600 with approximately $9,000 in cash and checks was stolen during an alleged burglary at the New Trail Fellowship Church, 1157 2400 Avenue in Abilene.
Investigators recovered the stolen safe in a wooded area of Grandview Plaza near the former home of a suspect identified as Miles Martin Sr., 60, who was incarcerated at the Riley County Jail.
Deputies were also able to recover a copy of the church key that Miles allegedly had in his possession, according to Hoffman.
Martin faces unrelated charges in Riley County. Additional burglary charges are pending, according to Hoffman. Martin has been in and out of the Kansas prison system since 2006, according to the Department of Corrections.
