NCK Tech welding hosts annual competition

NCK Tech held its 16th annual GMAW welding competition on the Beloit campus. Participants for the college division included students from both NCK Tech Beloit and Hays campus, Salina Area Technical College, Central Community College of Hastings and Columbus, NE and Hutchinson Community College.

The competition allows students to demonstrate their skills in blueprint reading, fabricate various weldments and highlight their ability to weld in all positions using the GMAW process.  A written test also was given to evaluate technical knowledge of the GMAW process. 

The competition held on March 5th included eight of the top ten placings from NCK Tech.  Those students include:

3rd Noah Huxman (NCK Tech, Hays

4th Cauy Thomas (NCK Tech, Anthony

5th Wyatt Woods (NCK Tech, Cimarron

6th Cooper levering (NCK Tech, Protection

7th Kyler Woods (NCK Tech, Cimarron

8th Ryley Burkhart (Salina Area Tech)

9th Ryan Broeckelman (NCK Tech) Beloit

10th Hesston Maxwell (NCK Tech, Smith Center

The high school competition had 26 schools from Kansas and Nebraska competing. Salina took first place followed by Hutchinson and Beloit High School with third place. Area students placing included Jacob Burks (4th) Beloit High School, Alex Pavlu  (8th) Ness City High School, Edgar Banuelos (9th) Thunder Ridge High School and Ethan Voss (10th) Hays High School.

The annual event could only take place with support from various business and industry leaders along with volunteers from the college.  Contributors included Lincoln Electric, Miller Electric, ESAB Electric, Caterpillar Work Tools of Wamego, AG-CO/Sunflower, Bohnert Welding, Landoll Corporation, Matheson/Linweld, Lincoln Electric, Winkel Manufacturing and Webber Gross Welding. 

Both campuses of NCK Tech offer a nine-month certificate program. Applications are now being accepted for 2020-2021 school year.  For more information visit www.ncktc.edu
