
ELLSWORTH COUNTY —A Kansas family is very thankful after their 7-year-old was found safe early Friday in Ellsworth.
Just before 6a.m., police responded to a home in the 1200 Block of North Colorado Street in Ellsworth for report of a missing child, according to Police Chief Emil Halfhill.
The parents told police they last saw the child at 9:30p.m. Thursday when they put him to bed.
Just after 5:30a.m. Friday, the boy wasn't in his bed and parents couldn't find him in the house. The parents also told police they boy had a history of sleep walking but had never left the home while sleep walking, according to Halfhill.
Police began a search around the neighborhood. Just after 6:15a.m. , police located the boy who was safe inside another home.
Police used social media and the sheriff's department alert system to share information in their efforts to find the boy.
The local fire department, EMS and the Kansas Highway Patrol also assisted, according to Hafhill.
