At 5 p.m. Sunday, April 5,  at the Hays High School gym, there will be a Battle of the Badges charity basketball game for Mitch Berans — policemen vs firefighters.

Berens — a 25-year veteran of the Hays Police Department — was diagnosed with cancer late last year.

Admission is free and donations will be accepted.

A 50/50 raffle will be offered. There will also be a raffle for items including a Traeger grill, a garage door installation and a Yeti cooler and tumbler at halftime. Raffle tickets will be $10 and can be purchased in advance.

Food vendors will be onsite with 10 percent of the proceeds going to Berens.

Orders are also being taken for T-shirts, which will cost $15.

The event is sponsored by Your Voice Through Cancer, a nonprofit cancer support group. For more information, call 785-639-3690.
