KHP IDs victims in fatal crash after van strikes deer on Kan. turnpike

DOUGLAS COUNTY—One. person was injured in an accident just after 2a.m. Sunday in Douglas County.

The Kansas Highway patrol reported a 2019 Ram Promaster driven by David Lee Woelfle, 50, Lino Lakes, MN, was eastbound on Interstate 70 just east of the South Lawrence trafficway.

The driver lost control of the vehicle after it struck a deer and then the barrier wall. 

An eastbound 2002 GMC Yukon driven by Carmunanne Radke, 36, Shawnee, failed to see the disable cargo van. The SUV struck the passenger side of the van.

Woelfle was pronounced dead at the scene. EMS transported Radke and a passenger in the Yukon Daniel Bursey, 36, Edwardsville, to the hospital in Topeka. Woelfle was not wearing a seat belt, according to the KHP.
