Woman hit by suspect fleeing from KC police dies

KANSAS CITY(AP) — A woman whose car was hit by an allegedly drunk driver during a police chase last week has died.

Kansas City police announced Friday that Rebecca White, 38, Raytown, Missouri had died. She and her 3-year-old daughter were stopped at a red light on Feb. 19 when a driver fleeing from police went through an intersection and struck her vehicle. Her daughter was seriously injured by survived.

The fleeing driver, 32-year-old Miguel Ayala, currently is charged with felony DWI with serious injury and felony fleeing from police. He is being held in the Jackson County Detention Center on $100,000 bond.

The Jackson County Prosecutor's office said Friday it would review new evidence in the case.

Court records say police began chasing Ayala after a woman reported he had tried to hit her with a vehicle and rammed several parked cars. The chase at one point reached 100 mph, police said.
