Kansas man dead after vehicle rear-ends 1967 tractor

BARTON COUNTY — Law enforcement authorities are investigating a fatal accident in Barton County.

Just before 7a.m.. Friday, the Barton County Sheriff’s Office was dispatched to a location south of Ellinwood in the 200 block of SE. 100th Avenue, according to Sheriff Brian Bellendir.

Upon arrival Sheriff’s deputies located an accident involving a farm tractor and a passenger vehicle.

Investigation at the scene indicates Jason Seth Winget, 18 of rural Ellinwood, was northbound on SE 100th Avenue operating a 1967 Minneapolis Moline tractor. He was taking the farm tractor to Ellinwood for an “Ag Day” event at the high school.

Roch A. Miller II, age 36 of Great Bend, was also northbound on SE. 100th Avenue and evidently did not see the tractor ahead of him and struck it from behind.

Investigation at the scene indicates Miller may have been distracted in the vehicle just prior to the collision, according to Bellendir.

Miller sustained serious injuries in the collision and was transported to Ellinwood District Hospital where he died, according to Bellendir. Winget received minor injuries and was treated at the scene.
