Police ID shooting victim found in car in Topeka

SHAWNEE COUNTY — Law enforcement authorities are investigating a fatal shooting in Topeka and have identified the victim.

Just before 1:30 a.m. Friday, the Shawnee County Emergency Communications Center began receiving reports of an individual that had been shot in the 1200 block of SW Washburn in Topeka, according to police Lt. Kelvin Johnson.

Upon arrival, officers located a victim identified as 19-year-old Ja’Sean Alston Topeka, in a vehicle suffering from life-threatening injuries.

EMS transported the Alston to a local hospital where he died. P

It is the city’s second homicide of 2020.

EMS transported the man to a local hospital where he died. Police have not released the victim's name.  Police expected to have streets closed in the area until midday during the investigation.

It is the city’s second homicide of 2020.
