
CHASE COUNTY – Law enforcement authorities are investigating a Kansas man for alleged animal cruelty in Chase County.
Deputies responded to to a report of animals that had been abandoned by the owner at a property on X Road just north of 260th in rural Chase County, according to the sheriff's department.
The owner had been away for approximately 30-60 days. When deputies arrived, they found three horses dead and another horse that had to be euthanized, according to the sheriff's department. Deputies made arrangements for someone to take and care for two other horses who needed emergency care.
Authorities contacted the property owner, identified as 48-year-old Steven Price. He was due in Chase County Court on other charges. When he arrived this week, deputies had a warrant for his arrest on requested animal cruelty charges and for interference with law enforcement, according to the sheriff's department.
He is due back in court next month on the animal cruelty allegations.
