Kan. teen jailed for brother's death after family uncooperative with police

SEDGWICK COUNTY — Law enforcement authorities are investigating a shooting death and have reported an arrest.

Just before 7p.m. on February 16, police were working an unrelated call at Via Christi St. Joseph Hospital when they had contact with 21-year-old Israel Norwood, who was the front seat passenger of a 2007 Chevy Impala and had a gunshot wound to his body, according to Lt. Christian Cory. Norwood died of his injuries at the hospital.

Norwood’s 18-year-old brother and 17-year-old brother were also in the vehicle. The 18-year-old fled from the hospital on foot and was later located by officers.  The brothers and other family members had been uncooperative with the investigation, according to Cory.

On February 23, police reported the arrest of Norwood's 18-year-old brother identified as Idriys Norwood of Wichita for second-degree murder, according to officer Paul Cruz.

He is being held on a $75,000 bond, according to online jail records.

Just before 7p..m.  Sunday, police were at St. Joseph Hospital in Wichita when they had contact with 21-year-old Israel Norwood. 

He was the front seat passenger of a 2007 Chevy Impala, had suffered a gunshot wound to his body and died at the hospital, according to Wichita police Lt. Christian Cory.

Norwood's 17 and 18-year-old brothers had also been in the vehicle that arrived at the hospital. The 18-year-old fled from the hospital on foot. Police later located him in the area.  

The brothers and other family members have been uncooperative with the investigation, according to Cory.   Police ask for anyone with information on the shooting to contact them.
