SUMNER COUNTY —One person died in an accident just after 12:30p.m. Friday in Sumner County.

The Kansas Highway Patrol reported a 1997 Buick Park Avenue driven by Gilberto Benitez-Garcia, 58, Hutchinson, was southbound on the Kansas Turnpike just north of the Belle Plain Service area. The car ran off the road and struck a tree.

Benitez-Garcia was pronounced dead at the scene. He was not wearing a seat belt, according to the KHP.
