It was special Tuesday edition of the Area Game of the Week that took place in beautiful Plainville, Kansas. The match-up featured the best team in 2A, the Trego Golden Eagles, and one of the best players in 2A, Plainville's Aubrey Dewey.

The game started slow, with both teams struggling to score. Trego was able to build a 9-6 lead after one quarter of play.

The second quarter saw a remarkable defensive performance by the Cardinals, as they held Trego scoreless for the first 7 minutes of the half. Trego was able grab a few points at the end, but Plainville still led 14-13 after a very defensive first half.

The 3rd quarter was more of the same, with Trego leading 26-22 heading into the final frame. Plainville reduced the lead to single point on occasion, and had chances to take the lead, but Trego held on to win a defensive grinder of a game 34-28.

Aubrey Dewey was as good as advertised. The senior Washburn commit led all scorers with 18 points. She also had 11 rebounds, 3 assists, and 5 steals. Junior Emma Day came off the bench to lead the Trego scoring effort with 10 points. Libby Frost had 7 points, including several timely free throws, to go with 8 boards.

Trego stays undefeated on the year and moves to 15-0. Plainville falls to 7-7.

The boys game brought considerably more high flying action. The Cardinals came in ranked 8th in the state at the 2A level, their record was 9-4. Trego was 8-7.

The Golden Eagles shocked the hometown fans by scoring the first 9 points, en-route to a 20-5 lead right out of the gate.

Plainville used a 10-0 run starting in the first and ending in the second quarter to close the gap to 20-15. The score was 28-20 in favor of Trego heading into the break.

The third quarter was a dog fight that saw Trego build their lead back to 40-29.

The fourth quarter started with disaster for the Cardinals as the lead ballooned to 47-29. However, Plainville wouldn't go away easily and they whittled the lead to as little as 6 with 2 minutes still to play.

In the end, the Cardinal comeback just wasn't enough, and Trego was able weather the storm and pick up the upset victory 56-44.

Trego seniors Carter Minson and Cooper Desormiers each had 18 points to lead all scorers. Sophomore Charlie Russell finished just 2 points away from a double-double as he had 8 points and 11 boards.

Seniors Jarred Casey had 14 points and 6 rebounds for Plainville. Junior Clay Pelton went 5/7 from 3-point range, leading to 15 points.

The Cardinals fall to 9-5 on the season. They'll try to end a 2 game skid against Oakley on Friday.

Trego is 9-7 on the year. They'll return home to face Phillipsburg on Friday.
