WICHITA, Kan. — A Kansas father charged with killing his 2-month-old son told authorities he repeatedly told the crying baby to “shut up” and squeezed his head “extra hard,” but didn’t notice he was seriously hurt for 30 minutes because he was playing video games, court records say.
According to an affidavit released Thursday, Marlin Williams Jr. told authorities that he invited a friend “to a party on the Xbox” so he could talk about his son, Marrell, after the baby started vomiting on Jan. 10. The friend told Williams to call 911.
The baby died six days later, and the 22-year-old Williams of Wichita was charged last week with first-degree murder and three counts of aggravated battery.
Doctors found Marrell had two skull fractures and that his twin sister had suffered a broken femur, the affidavit said.
Williams told authorities he “should not have done this” and that he intended for everything to “just be quiet,” the affidavit said. Besides the twins, Williams also was caring for two other young children at the time. He said the other children also had been crying and he was “frustrated.”
