Kan. man accused of taking $1650 from employer's cash register

SALINE COUNTY —Law enforcement authorities are investigating a Kansas man for alleged felony theft after a convenience store reported money missing from their cash register.

On December 31,  management at Casey's, 725 West Schilling Road in Salina contacted police to report that an employee was believed to have been stealing money from the register, according to Salina Police Detective Sergeant David Villanueva.

Police launched an investigation that included obtaining access to the store's accounting records and surveillance video. It was determined, based on video evidence, that during the period between 5 a.m. on Nov. 23 and 6 p.m. on Dec. 30 an employee took a total of $1,650 from the register.

Police arrested Marquez Devoe Patterson, 29, of Salina, on requested charges that include felony theft.  The investigation is continuing to determine whether additional money was stolen, according to Villanueva.
