Suspect in fatal after-hours Kan. club shooting appears in court

SEDGWICK COUNTY — The suspect in a fatal December shooting at a night club in Wichita made his first court appearance Wednesday.

Police arrested 25-year-old Terrance Johnson in a suburb of Oklahoma City on January 2, according to officer Charley Davidson. Authorities extradited him back to Kansas Tuesday.  He made his first court appearance Wednesday, according to the Sedgwick County Attorney's office.

Just before before 3 a.m. on Sunday Dec. 2, police responded to a shooting call at the 511 club, 511 North West Street in Wichita, according to Captain Brent Allred.  Upon arrival, officers located 19-year-old Sonya Brown with a gunshot wound.  She was transported to an area hospital where she died.

The investigation revealed a disturbance occurred between the shooting suspect 25-year-old Terranace Johnson and a male patron inside the business when Johnson fired multiple shots, which struck Brown police believe was an unintended and uninvolved victim. 

Johnson remains jailed on $500,000 bond on suspicion of first-degree murder, attempted first-degree murder, aggravated battery with a deadly weapon, possession of marijuana and several traffic infractions, according to online jail records.
