SEDGWICK COUNTY — Law enforcement authorities are investigating a Kansas teen caught driving a stolen vehicle.

Just after 3a.m. Thursday, police located a reported stolen Nissan Altima in 500 Block of South Oliver in Wichita, according to officer Charley Davidson. The vehicle was occupied by 18-year-old Devonte Coleman and a passenger.

Police attempted to stop the vehicle but Coleman accelerated and a short pursuit started. Coleman pulled into a church parking lot in the 6000 Block of East Harry and fled from the vehicle on foot. He left the car running and in drive. The Nissan struck a handicapped sign and an unoccupied police patrol vehicle, according to Davidson.

Officers arriving in the area arrested Coleman after a foot chase.

Investigators learned the Nissan had been reported stolen from Andover.

He is being held on requested charges of possession of stolen property, evade and elude, hit and run, criminal damage to property, obstruct and an outstanding warrant.
