Adolph Flax

Adolph Flax, age 77, of WaKeeney, KS, passed away Tuesday, December 31, 2019 at Trego County Lemke Memorial Hospital, WaKeeney.  He was born August 14, 1942 to Rudolph Sr. and Regina (Augustine) Flax in Arnold, KS.

Adolph graduated from Arnold High School.  On September 30, 1961, he was united in marriage to Norma Nemechek in WaKeeney, KS, and together they had 6 children. He was a lifelong farmer and rancher.   Even after his physical limitations prevented him from doing the work himself, he would often ride along in the truck and continue to be involved with the harvest and cattle. Adolph was a devout Catholic, a member of the Knights of Columbus, 3rd Degree, and an avid fan of the Kansas City Chiefs and Royals, as well as the University of Kansas Jayhawks and Wichita State. He enjoyed listening to the classic country of David Church and polka music. He loved attending his children’s and grandchildren’s school activities and sporting events.

Adolph is survived by his wife of 58 years; sons Randy (Ruby) Flax of Salina, KS, Roger Flax and Gerald Flax of WaKeeney, and Brian Flax of Hays, KS; daughters Diana Middleswart of Parsons, KS and Paula (Jeff) Fisher of Goodland, KS; grandchildren Crystina Jones and Erin Flax of Salina, Caleb Flax, Leah (Cody) Crossland, and Shaylee Flax of WaKeeney, Jared Dechant and Evan Dechant of Topeka, KS, Riley Flax of Hays, Tyler Fisher of Great Bend, KS, and Braden Fisher, Dani Fisher, and Ryan Fisher of Goodland; great-grandchildren Tatum Flax, Addison Crossland, and Callan Crossland of WaKeeney; brother Robert (Janice) Flax of Salina; and sister Dorothy Jacobs of Hays.

Adolph is preceded in death by both parents; two brothers Rudolph “Rudy” Flax Jr. and Werner Flax; sister Virginia Flax; and nephews Steven, Michael and Jeffrey Flax.

Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:30 AM, Saturday, January 4, 2020, at Christ the King Catholic Church, WaKeeney.  Burial will be at the church cemetery.

Visitation will be 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM, Friday, January 3, 2020, with a parish vigil service immediately following, all at Schmitt Funeral Home, WaKeeney.
