GEARY COUNTY —An employee at the McDonald's 1127 South Washington Street in Junction City reported that an internal investigation is being conducted and the matter involving a handwritten expletive followed by the word "pig" on a cup of coffee served to a Herington police officer is being taken very seriously.

The incident occurred early Saturday morning at the drive-through at  restaurant.

Junction City police and the Geary County Sheriff's Departments are commenting on the matter via their Facebook pages.

The Sheriff's Department issued a statement: "Just to weigh in on the current situation in our community. We, humanity as a whole, have become quick to judge, and even quicker to react. We don't know the whole story and are saddened by seeing this incident in our community. However, we at the Geary County Sheriff's Office, believe this was an isolated incident and have faith in management at McDonald's to get to the bottom of the situation. We do not believe the actions of one individual represent the feeling of our community as a whole, a community we are proud to serve. As a show of faith in our community the Sheriff and some of his command staff will be visiting to have a cup of Coffee Monday morning."

The Junction City Police Department issued a statement. "  We have received many messages asking if this incident was true and expressing concern for our department. Unfortunately, this did happened to a Herrington Police Officer. We as a department are upset this occurred especially to an officer in another jurisdiction just stopping by to on his way to work. We would like that officer to know this is not representative of how the majority of residents in Junction City feel about Law Enforcement. JCPD has a very wonderful and supportive community we are honored to serve. We are hopeful that the business this occurred takes appropriate action.

Thank you to everyone that has reached out or expressed concern to and for us."
