The Latest: Kan. man dies after crash during high-speed chase

MONTGOMERY COUNTY —One person died in an accident during a high-speed chase with law enforcement Monday in Montgomery County.

Just after 11:30p.m., deputies from the Montgomery County sheriff's department were on County Road 4300 just south of 2600 attending to a deer that had been struck by a vehicle, according to the sheriff's department.

The deputy's vehicles were parked with emergency lights active when a Dodge Ram 2500 driven by Robert Scott Jackson, 24, Coffeyville, struck the patrol vehicles head-on. The collision damaged one patrol vehicle and disabled the other, according to the sheriff's department. The Dodge Ram fled the scene and the deputies chased on County Road 4550 at a high rate of speed.

The driver lost control of the vehicle when the road turned from pavement to gravel just past County Road 2800.. The vehicle entered the east ditch where it struck multiple trees.

Jackson was pronounced dead at the scene and transported to Frontier Forensics. He was properly restrained at the time of the accident, according to the KHP.

The Kansas Highway Patrol reported a 2008 Dodge Ram 2500 driven by  Robert Scott Jackson, 24, Coffeyville, was being pursued by law enforcement on County Road 4550 four miles north of Coffeyville at a high rate of speed.

The driver lost control of the vehicle when the road turned from pavement to gravel. The vehicle entered the east ditch where it struck multiple trees.

Jackson was pronounced dead at the scene and transported to Frontier Forensics. He was properly restrained at the time of the accident.  Authorities have not released details on what prompted the chase.
