Police: Kan. woman jailed for husband's murder in Salina

SALINE COUNTY — Law enforcement authorities are investigating a murder in Salina and have a suspect in custody.


Just before 4:30 p.m. Saturday, Salina Fire Department EMS and Salina Police officers were dispatched to a residence at 1100 North 10th Street for a medical emergency, according to a media release from Salina Police.


Upon arrival, first responders found 52-year-old Phillip R. Grubbs, Jr., deceased.


Through the police investigation, Melani Grubbs, age 60, was identified as a suspect in Phillip Grubbs’ murder, according to police.


Melani was Phillip Grubbs’ wife and also lived at 1100 North 10th Street, according to the release. 


Melani Gubbs has been booked into the Salina County Jail with requested charges including one count of second degree murder and one count of felon in possession of a firearm, according to the release.


She has a previous conviction for theft and had been out of prison since September 2017, according to the Kansas Department of Corrections.
