Fire marshal: Suspect identified in Kan. house fire

SHAWNEE COUNTY — Law enforcement authorities are investigating a fire that was intentionally set.


Just after 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, fire crews responded to a structure fire at 216 SE High Street in Topeka, according to Fire Marshal Michael Martin. Upon arrival, fire crews reported heavy flames at the front of the one story house. Fire suppression crews conducted an offensive fire attack and quickly extinguished the fire.


The Fire Investigation Unit determined the cause of the fire to be intentionally set, according to Martin. A person of interest has been identified.


The estimated structural dollar loss is $5,000 and a content loss of $1,000. There were no injuries reported No smoke alarms were sounding in the structure.
