SEDGWICK COUNTY —Law enforcement arrested an 18-year-old in connection with a shooting that injured a 14-year-old boy Friday evening in north Wichita.
Just before 6p.m.. on Sept. 11, officers responded to a shooting in the 2600 block of North Park Place in Wichita, according to a media release. When officers arrived, they learned that a disturbance had occurred between two groups. Both groups left the area in separate vehicles.
During the investigation, officers learned that the suspects had followed the victims and fired multiple rounds into their vehicle, striking the 14-year-old in the shoulder. He was transported to a local hospital in the private vehicle he had been riding in and was later released.
With assistance from WPD’s Raven gunshot detection system, officers located the shooting scene and gathered additional information. Gentec cameras and Flock automated license plate reader (ALPR) technology identified a vehicle believed to be involved in the shooting.
Officers later located the vehicle and conducted a traffic stop. The 18-year-old driver, identified in county booking records as Orlando Garza, was taken into custody and transported to the Wichita Police Department Investigations Bureau for questioning.
He was booked into the Sedgwick County Jail on requested charges of aggravated battery and criminal discharge of a firearm into an occupied vehicle.
Investigators have also issued a felony pickup order for a second 18-year-old man believed to be involved in the shooting.
