KANSAS CITY —A Kansas City man has been charged with 14 felonies in connection with a shooting and multi-hour standoff with police at a residence around East 26th Street and Montgall Avenue on January 14, according to Jackson County Prosecutor Melesa Johnson.

According to court records, Kansas City police were dispatched to the residence on a call for help. After officers knocked on the door, they heard a woman screaming and then two gunshots fired inside the residence.
Officers made forcible entry into the residence and the victim was observed lying on the ground with a gunshot injury to the face. She was transported from the scene by EMS. She sustained a non-survivable injury to the head and is not expected to survive without life support.
The scene turned into a standoff with the defendant and KCPD negotiators responded to the scene and communicated with the defendant by phone. The defendant surrendered without incident.
