ATCHISON COUNTY—A Kansas man and woman died in an accident just before 9:30p.m. Wednesday in Atchison County.
The Kansas Highway Patrol reported a 2005 Toyota Camry driven by Derek R F Wohletz, 37, Tonganoxie, was southbound on U.S. 73 approximately three miles south of Atchison.
The Camry traveled left of center into the northbound lane and struck a northbound 2002 Toyota Corolla driven by Felieca K. Paxton, 26, Atchison, head-on.
Paxton and a passenger Jovonnie D Franklin, 33, Atchison, were pronounced dead at the scene and transported to Lindsborg-Pruitt Funeral Home.
EMS transported a 7-year-old boy from Atchison to Amberwell Atchison Hospital and a 6-year-old boy from Atchison to Children's Mercy. EMS transported Wohletz to KU Medical Center.
The adults were not wearing seat belts, according to the KHP. The KHP did not have details on child seat/seatbelt status for the children.
