Police catch Kansas felon after chase with stolen vehicle

SHAWNEE COUNTY —Law enforcement authorities are investigating a suspect in connection with a stolen vehicle.

On Thursday afternoon, police officers on patrol located a stolen vehicle in the area of SE 5th and Liberty in Topeka, according to Lt. Edward Stanley.

Officers attempted to conduct a traffic stop, but the driver of the vehicle initiated a pursuit. The pursuit ended in the 3600 block of SE 6th, where the driver fled on foot.

Police eventually located the driver later identified as 35-year-old Vashawn M. Fitzpatrick at SE 7th and Brookside in Topeka, and took him into custody without incident. 

Fitzpatrick was booked into the Shawnee County Department of Corrections on requested charges of Possession of Stolen property, Aggravated Assault on a Law Enforcement Officer, Flee or Attempt to Elude and Criminal Damage to Property.
