ELLSWORTH COUNTY —Law enforcement authorities are investigating vandalism in Ellsworth County.

Vandals used a chainsaw to cut down power poles in an attempt to steal copper, according to a social media report from Western Cooperative Electric Association.

Vandals did not know there was no copper on these poles and "their effort is not only wrong but incredibly dangerous."

"Luckily for the would-be thieves, these power lines were not electrified at the time of the vandalism; otherwise, there may have been a loss of life."

Western Cooperative Electric Association reported they recently have seen an uptick in damages in Ellsworth County.  Anytime and anywhere you see suspicious activity near power equipment, please report it to the county Sheriff. "It's for their own safety."
