U.S. Marshals catch Kan. murder suspect in Tennessee

DOUGLAS COUNTY—Law enforcement authorities investigating a fatal September 8, shooting in Lawrance have located and arrested 19-year-old Andrel Darnell Spates, Jr. of Lawrence. United States Marshals took him into custody Wednesday in Tennessee, according to police

Spates is a suspect in the killing of 21-year-old Christian Willis of Wichita in the 1500 block of Kentucky Street in Lawrence on Sept. 8, according to police department spokesperson Patrick Compton.

On Sept. 17, Lawrence Police, with assistance from the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office, arrested 18-year-old Javier Isidro Romero on a requested charge of first-degree murder in connection with shooting.

Spates will be transported to the Douglas County Jail pending an extradition hearing. He is being held on a requested charge of first-degree murder.

He is a suspect in the killing of 21-year-old Christian Willis of Wichita in the 1500 block of Kentucky Street in Lawrence on Sept. 15, according to police department spokesperson Patrick Compton.

Spates is 6-foot tall, 165 pounds and is considered armed and dangerous.
