2 Missouri sheriff's deputies shot while serving a warrant

PETTIS COUNTY—The Missouri State Highway Patrol is investigating a shooting that injured two Pettis County Sheriff's deputies.

Just after 6a.m. Friday, the Pettis County Sheriff’s Office was attempting to serve a search warrant relating to a narcotics investigation at a residence in the 27000 block of MO-BB Highway,. according to the Patrol. 

While doing so, a suspect fired shots, and two deputies were struck.

One deputy subsequently returned fire. The suspect was not struck, taken into custody, and transported to the Pettis County jail. Both deputies were initially transported to area hospitals with non-life threatening injuries.

At this time, one deputy has been released from the hospital, while the other still remains in the care of medical professionals.  The location of the shooting is approximately 90 minutes east of Kansas City.
