One hospitalized after fire at home in Kansas City

KANSAS CITY —One person was injured in a house fire Friday in Kansas City.

Just after 7:30a.m., crews responded to a report of a house fire in the 7400 block of E 49th, according to Battalion Chief Michael Hopkins.

Crews reported heavy smoke and fire from a single-story home.  Two occupants and a family pet were able to escape prior to the arrival of fire crews. One occupant was evaluated on scene and refused additional medical treatment. One occupant was transported in stable condition for evaluation of smoke inhalation and minor burns.

The Red Cross is assisting two adults and one dog.  No firefighter injuries were reported at this incident. The cause of the fire is remains under investigation.
