
ATCHISON COUNTY —Law enforcement are investigating a suspect on multiple allegations after a traffic stop.
Just after 8:30a.m. on Sunday an officer on patrol stopped a vehicle in the 700 block South 4th Street in the city of Atchison for a traffic violation, according to Police Chief Mike Wilson. The driver, identified as 66-year-old Ivan Cushinberry, Jr., stopped the vehicle and the officer made contact with him.
During an investigation, while the officer was getting Cushinberry out of the vehicle, Cushinberry started the vehicle and sped off. A pursuit followed to the 500 block S Street where Cushinberry stopped the vehicle and he was taken into custody. Police ultimately found cocaine and drug paraphernalia in the vehicle. He is being held on requested charges of fleeing and attempting to elude, transporting an open container, possession of cocaine, possession of drug paraphernalia, and interference with law enforcement.
