GEARY COUNTY —Law enforcement authorities are investigating  an evolving situation involving the sale of fake gold jewelry.

According to a social media report, Jack and Dick's Pawn Shop, 1434 North Washington Street in Junction City, is cautioning  the public about  buying gold looking jewelry from strangers at a gas station or a parking lot. "It is always fake." The store, according to police, has seen a large influx of fake gold jewelry in the past week.

The store reported that sellers approach buyers with a story meant to tug on your heart strings. "I am trying to get home to my sick Mother but ran out of gas money. She may not make it through the night." Then they offer what looks to be valuable gold necklaces and rings for a fraction of what you think they must be worth. "A customer just left, furious, after being robbed for $140," the store reported.

These items are usually stamped "18k", are magnetic, and have a brassy hue. These people are currently working both WalMart parking lots and convenience stores in Junction City

Junction City Police asked the public to file a police report if you have been victimized.
