KC-area couple charged after their infant died from malnutrition

KANSAS CITY —The mother and father of a 10-week old child have been charged with Child Abuse after the child was found dead from malnutrition, according to Jackson County Prosecutor Jean Peters Baker.

Austen M. Taub Hack, 19, and Sarah Stone, 20, each face a felony charge of Abuse or Neglect of a Child Resulting in Death.

According to court records, Independence Police Department officers were dispatched on Nov. 14, 2022, to an apartment. Officers found a 10-week-old child who was not breathing and cold. Detectives observed the child was extremely malnourished.

The Medical Examiner advised that the child suffered from severe malnutrition and dehydration.

Prosecutors requested a $150,000 cash bond for each defendant.
