FINNEY COUNTY—Law enforcement authorities investigating a 2021 homicide in southwest Kansas have made an arrest.

On a Sunday evening in March of 2021, police were dispatched to 1404 W. Fulton Street Apt. 4, in Garden City after report of a man shot in the head, according to Sgt. Lana Urteaga.

At the scene, police located  32-year-old Victor Cabrera and Finney County EMS transported him  St. Catherine Hospital. He was later flown to Via Christi Hospital in Wichita where he died.

On July 19, police conducted a traffic stop in the 1000 block of N. 2nd Street in Garden City and arrested 39-year-old Alfonso Fajardo in connection to the killing.

Fajardo is being held in Finney County Jail on requested charges of Second-Degree Murder, Aggravated Intimidation of a Witness, and Criminal Possession of a Firearm by a Felon.  Fajardo has previous convictions for aggravated battery and aggravated burglary, according to the Kansas Dept. of Corrections.
