Kan. couple hospitalized, 2 dead after I-70 head-on crash

JACKSON COUNTY, Mo. —Two people died and five others were injured in an accident just after 8:30p.m. Sunday in Jackson County.

The Missouri State Highway Patrol reported a 2013 Hyundai Elantra driven by Connor J. Souther, 20, Lexington, Missouri, was eastbound on Interstate 70 near the Blue Springs exit.

The car traveled off the left side of the road, crossed the median, traveled into the westbound lanes and struck a westbound 2018 Chevy Traverse driven by Garret D. Brumley, 56, Lee's Summit, head-on. 

Souther and Brumley were pronounced dead at the scene and they were transported to the Medical Examiner's office.

EMS transported five passengers in the Chevy including Gary D. Brumley, 80 and Glenna Brumley, 79; both of Louisburg, Kansas; Juneitta F. Brumley, 58; Kayla M. Mcenroe, 25 and Justin Mcenroe, 25, all of Lee's Summit to Centerpoint Medical Center. All seven were properly restrained, according to the MSHP.
