
KANSAS CITY—Law enforcement authorities are investigating a shooting near a school in Kansas City.
Just before 10:30a.m. Monday, police were dispatched to 11500 block of Food Lane on a shooting call. Officers located a male shooting victim with a non-life threatening gunshot wound outside a residence there, according to Officer Jake Becchina.
He told officers he was inside of a residence when he was shot.
Because of the proximity to the nearby Ingels Elementary School and out of an abundance of caution officers notified the school and advised them to initiate a lockdown.
Officers took a subject of interest into custody for further investigation. Officers also called for an operation 100 to bring additionally trained officers and negotiators to ensure this was completed a safely as possible considering the location.
Officers eventually made entry into the residence and there were no additional subjects of interest located inside, according to Becchina. Police have not released the name of the suspect or possible charges.
